Civita di Bagnoregio is one of the most striking medieval towns in all of Italy perched high up on a volcanic rock. The ancient Etruscan people chose this site for its high ground in the 6th Century BC. Over the centuries, earthquakes and erosion have caused parts of Civita to collapse into the valley below, giving it the nickname The Dying City.
